Annual exhibition 15.05.2016 - 23.04.2017
The exhibition "HERMANN NITSCH - RITUAL", starting on May 15th 2016 at the nitsch museum, concentrates on the meaning of religious and artistic rituals in Hermann Nitsch`s work. His gesamtkunstwerk, the essence of which is presented in the 6-day-play of the Orgien Mysterien Theater, is tied to the ritual since its beginning. "the ritual is a very intensive effort towards a sensual experience. the form is needed to intensify the sensual perception. (Hermann Nitsch, 2015)
The exhibition presents works and props of Hermann Nitsch`s Orgien Mysterien Theater as well as examples from the visual arts and music, which are in Nitsch`s understanding linked to the ritual. The selection of the works was influenced f.e. by the repetition as an element of the ritual, that cano be seen in various recurring motifs of Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh or Ferdinand Hodler. The exhibition also shows visual models for the most concise rituals of the Orgien Mysterien Theater - the crucifixtion, the foot washing and the procession.
